How much do I love this kid? I say to him, "Hey, let's get out of here. Want to walk into town?" And he answers with, "Yeah! Let me get my tape measure, I've been wanting to measure those potholes!" And there we are walking in to town stopping every few feet (unbelievable how many there are this year) so he can measure the depth of the potholes.
I call this unschooling.
I made him stop in the middle of the road so I could take pictures to document his learning for the end of season evaluation. I had him call out the numbers just to be sure he was reading the tape right.

For the record, the deepest hole in the road was three inches even. Is it any wonder I blew out a tire?

I love the unschooling! This is what it's all about. Kids are super learners, when adults just let them be. Potholes are a huge problem in my town. No flat tire yet. But I am waiting!
can i just say i am so excited to homeschool?!?! emmett looks so mature in that picture and i love the house way in the background, is it yours?
YIKES! That is a big pothole. Where is the road man? Mabye he should have spoken up at that town meeting.
That is the best kind of school day! And Yay! that you can walk to town - that must feel good.
Ha! Yes, they are some potholes. I can't even begin to describe what the frost heaves are like. We guessed our tape wasn't long enough to measure them. Where is the road man indeed!
Nope, that's not my house in the background. But it was probably built around the same time. (1850-ish.)
That right there, is what totally makes me know that unschooling will be the right choice for us! Fantastic!
